Sorry for all the downer posts tonight guys. This one is truly heartbreaking and we have lost a truly inspirational gay icon and a man who was loved by everyone.
Dirk Shafer the first openly gay man of the year in PlayGirl passed away at just 52 years old. He was found dead in his car a few blocks from his home. An autopsy is being planned but it is being reported that he may have died from a heart attack.
Shafer made history, and stunned readers, when he announced that he was gay after posing for PlayGirl. His 1992 Man Of The Year pictorial helped him rise to fame.
He loved working out and staying in shape and was even invited back to pose for PlayGirl twenty years after his original spread in 2012.
After his first pictorial with the magazine he wrote, directed and starred in the mockumentary Man Of The Year which parodied his whole experience. He is also known for the film Circuit which he wrote and directed which is about gay circuit parties.

Rest in peace you amazing man. They needed a Man Of The Year in Heaven.
